kulturmelange goes West
Last August, kulturmelange, along with some enthusiastic literature lovers, set sail to explore the idyllic holiday region of book aficionados, to find out which books they just couldn't put down. Aboard our Melange Boat, anchored directly on Lake Constance, some participants exchanged the contents of their current summer reads, while others were inspired by the stories over refreshing drinks.
All the reading pirates on board had brought their own books, and the diversity of summer readings was impressive. It quickly became clear that some preferred biographies, while others let their imaginations run wild in novels. We also engaged in lively discussions about reading and the fascination with self-improvement books. Furthermore, two groups emerged: the patriotic native speakers, who exclusively read books in German, and the international explorers, who occasionally delve into books in other languages. Many mastered the challenge of speaking enthusiastically about a book without revealing too much.
In addition to our spirited discussions, we also enjoyed the dream weather on Lake Constance and took the opportunity to cool off in the water now and then. As a memento of our day at the lake, participants had the chance to create trendy bracelets with their favorite words from the books, which were either exchanged among each other or kept for themselves.
